Surprise birthday party
Today is the first Arashi birthday party in this series in Nonno. After decorating the room and writing a card… all that's left is to wait until the lead comes!
In this edition we planned a birthday party for Aiba-kun who was born on Christmas Eve. At Matsumoto-kun's suggestion, who grinned and said not to tell Aiba about the theme, we tried to surprise him! Sakurai-kun came in early, prepared a cake and a card, and then waited on standby. Unaware of this, Aiba-kun entered the room. When he opened the door… he froze for an instant, then immediately said with a smile, "This is what you were doing!" They toast straightaway, and then the happy talk begins.
I have various memories of being with Arashi often around the time of my birthday
Sho: The surprise was a huge success!
Aiba: I was surprised! I'd heard that today's theme was "Throbbing Arashi". What that would involve was a complete mystery. Since I had to wait longer than usual, I thought maybe Sho-chan would be the main person photographed (laughs).
Sho: I was getting things ready (grins). Well, I borrowed a lot of help from the staff members (laughs). I reconfirmed that I suck at this kind of work, where you need to pay attention to the details.
Aiba: (Looking all over the room) Wow, I'm so touched! Thank you for being the first to celebrate my birthday. When you were little, did you ever have a party like this?
Sho: Never! My birthday is in the middle of the exam period, so it was a busy time for everyone. But once, while we were studying at a family restaurant, my friends prepared a cake for me.
Aiba: Same, since it's on Christmas Eve and it's during the winter holidays, I feel like I didn't get to celebrate it with my friends. Me and my relatives would meet up and we'd combine celebrating Christmas and my birthday. In the more recent years, I've been lucky enough to celebrate during concerts with the other members of Arashi and the audience… those are the happiest birthdays!
Sho: Me too, ages ago when I did a solo concert and the audience celebrated my birthday, I was deeply touched. We don't have birthday parties with our fellow members of Arashi, but we do give each other presents every year. Most recently I gave bags. I gave Satoshi-kun a slightly small bag, Aiba-kun and Nino backpacks, and MatsuJun a slightly big tote bag.
Aiba: I gave Leader a t-shirt, Sho-chan clothes, Nino shoes, and MatsuJun sweats, I think. An unforgettable one from the past is the CD I received for my 20th birthday!
Sho: Nino composed the music, staff members also participated, we recorded, and we gave it to each other one by one. When it was Nino's turn, there was no one to write the song, so we made a video letter. That was also very ridiculous but fun (laughs).
Aiba: (bursts into laughter) Man, we were young!
Sho: That reminds me, recently on the 3rd of November, it was getting late so I was going to go home, but a friend said to come over and just say hi, so I went over and when I got there I hear, "Congratulations on the anniversary of your debut!" Can you believe it, my friends privately celebrated our debut day!
Aiba: We feel grateful for that. I've been in the same situation before, and Yoko (Yokoyama Yuu) called me over. I was wondering what was up, and he enthusiastically congratulated me on being chosen as the host for Kouhaku, which made me so happy. If we were going to plan a surprise as Arashi… maybe it would be something like a member's wedding?
Sho: (Imagining) I don't want the members to come to mine! It'd be so embarrassing!
Aiba: But you want to go to our weddings, don't you!?
Sho: (Again imagining) … Certainly (laughs).
Aiba: I'll definitely cry. I'll give it my all, whether it's the planning or entertainment (laughs)!
